Pick up from either Haridwar Railway Station.

Check-in to Rest House. We can do birding around the rest house if time and energy are on our side, around the rest house Crested Kingfisher and Shikra are commonly observed in hunting mode. In the night we will take a small ride around the main road surrounding Chila range.

Many Elephant herds come around the road for reaching the mighty ganges to quench the thirst. It is also a good time and area to spot Owls, Owlets, night jars and is known for movement of leopards and hyena.

Abount Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Reserve
Jhilmil Jheel is a saucer (circular) shaped wetland situated on the left bank of River Ganges in Chiriyapur forest range of Haridwar district in Uttarakhand State, India. It is corridor for various animal of Rajaji Tiger Reserve as both shares common boundaries. The sighting of swamp deer in this area was reported on 1st February, 2005. Later, on 14 August 2005, the area was declared among one of the first Conservation Reserve in India by the Hon President of India Prof Abdul Kalam. The area is rich in faunal and floral diversity including four species of deer (Chital, Sambar, Barking deer and specially Swamp deer), Wild Elephant, Nilgai and Common leopard occasionally tiger and a large number of resident and winter migratory birds. Tantpur village is the only village adjacent to Jhilmil Jheel. The village came into existence only after 1950’s. These villagers strongly support conservation of Swamp deer in Jhilmil Jheel. Efforts are made for the betterment in conserving Swamp deer, its habitat and as a whole flora and fauna of the Jhilmil Jheel Conservation Reserve with the cooperation of people of adjacent Tantwala village.

On the way to Mondiapani Forest Rest House we will have lunch at a great birding destination with focus on getting glimpses of Reb Billed Leothrix, Red Billed Blue Magpie and other Shivalik beauties.
Late Evening, we reach Forest Guest House @ Mondiapani, unpack our bags and retire for the day after food and a bit of star trail.

MORNING:

We go for birding trail on foot in and around the rich saal forests of Mondiapni Range, this range is famous for woodpeckers and all the beautiful birds of Shivaliks and serves as an important migration corridor between Gangetic planes and Sub Himalayan Altitudes. It is home to Red Billed Leaothirx, Chestnut headed as well as Velvet fronted Nutach, White capped water redstart, Red Breasted Parakeet, variety of woodpeckers, Rusty Cheeked Scimitar babbler, Black Crested Bulbul, Ashy Bulbul.
These Forests are still migratory corridors of elephants and sighting of elephants are common in these forests. Other mammals include Sambhar Deer, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Jackal and Leopard

Enroute we will be able Grey Headed Woodpecker, Rufous Woodpecker, Grey Winged Black Bird, Great Slaty Woodpecker, flocks of Khaleej’s Peasant, Minivet, Maroon Oriole, Lesser and Greater racket tailed drongo, 2 species of nutach, long tailed minivet, Crested Serpent Eagle, Grey Headed Fishing Eagle, Lesser Fishing Eagle, Brown Fish Owl, Crested Kingfisher, Stork Billed Kingfisher, Greater Yellow nape and Lesser yellow nape woodpeckers, Ashy Bulbul, Black Crested bulbul, Hair Crested Drongo, and many other rare and endangered bird species.

Halduparao Zone
We will again explore Saal forests and different water bodies in Halduparao zone, it is good time to spot Yellow Throated Marten, Mongoose and several birds like Changeable Hawk Eagle, Varity of pigeons and doves. Morning is a prime time to spot and observe delightfully beautiful birds of corbett landscape.

AFTERNOON:

Move Towards Koluchaur F.R.H.

Kolachaur is a pristine range well connected with Dhikala range of Jim Corbett, it is actually opposite side of Dhikala and has many water sources. It gives us excellent opportunity to observe elephants doing dust baths as well as boasts itself of largest tigers in Jim Corbett landscape.
During this safari we cross the sanonandi river 8 times and chances of sighting of mammals increases many folds and we may even be able to see Otters and Ghariyals. During our trip time limted water will attract more elephants and bigger mammals towards water bodies.

We will follow up on leads collected on previous day Safari and will try to locate the big cats of Koluchaur range. It is a range which is preferred by breeding females as well as new adult tigers in a bid to make new territories. Kolachaur is also famous for Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Grey Headed Fish Eagle and Lesser Fish Eagles. Great Hornbills are also spotted here.
